A large quantity of Alliance Doors’ fire rated roller shutters was installed recently by one of their Cumbria-based trade partners as part of a large warehouse redevelopment in Workington, Cumbria.
Previously, an expansive caravan storage facility, the warehouse was redeveloped and refurbished, and now comprises of 22 individual industrial units.
A total of 25 Fire rated shutters were installed and fitted to a mixture of rigid and flexible structures within the units, providing an obtrusive and aesthetically pleasing security and fire containment solution.
Each shutter was supplied with a fire door interface panel which was connected to the fire alarm, to enable the actuation of a powered controlled descent of the shutter by a 240v AC tubular motor. An uninterruptable power supply (UPS) / battery backup – which is a standard feature of the door – was also provided to ensure that the shutters will still close even in the event of a mains power failure.
It was specified that the shutters were powder coated in a Strawberry Red (RAL3018) finish which offers a contrast in a vibrant, yet unusual colour scheme. Alliances Fire shutters can be powder coated in a wide range of colour options to a RAL or BS colour.
Alliance’s fire shutter design has been successfully furnace tested on both a rigid (masonry or steel) and a flexible (timber stud) structure. The design meets the essential characteristics of BS EN 16034:2014 and BS EN 13241:1:2003, providing peace of mind to Alliance’s customers that the fire shutters they manufacture are of the highest quality and are fully compliant with the latest British Standards.
